frequently asked questions
some details about the trip and the travelogue
Q: What is your name?
A: Tyler Collins. Hi.
Q: Where are you going?
A: To various destinations across Canada on the Via Train.
Q: How long is the trip?
A: A total of 32 days, from July 1st - August 1st 2017.
Q: What's the total distance of travel?
A: About 14,700km on train, plus another 1,000-1,500km by car, bus, boat, subway and foot.
Q: What's this all about, anyway?
A: I'm taking a month this summer to explore the country, and learn some things about Canada's history, identity, and what it means for me as a citizen in the country I'm from.
Q: That sounds pretentious.
A: ^ That's not a question. :)
Q: Where can I read about your trip as you go?
A: I'm so glad you asked. Right here! There will be daily written updates along with pictures here. There will also be links to daily Facebook videos you can watch as I go.
Q: Where can I watch your video travel diaries?
A: They are all posted on Facebook. I can't upload them on the website because Weebly doesn't permit videos on their websites without paying a pricey subscription fee. You can watch them all at this link:

Q: Why haven't you posted any new journals or videos in a few days?!
A: First, I'm flattered you're reading and enjoying my travel journal so much you're angry I'm not working faster. The reality is some areas of Canada are full of dead zones, or my trip itinerary has me without internet sometimes for 48-60 hours at once. (Journals also take 2+ hours each to write.) Keep checking every day - I'm uploading new things as fast as I can; you can, however, see new pictures on Twitter and Instagram daily.
Q: Are you Canadian?
A: Yes. My hometown in Campbellton, New Brunswick, and I currently live just west of Toronto, Ontario.
Q: Are you traveling alone?
A: (Sigh). Yes, but I'll be meeting various friends and relatives at different cities along the way.
Q: How can you afford this?
A: I'm traveling on a special rail ticket Via Rail offered called the "Canada150 Youth Pass", offering unlimited travel on its train network for the month of July.
Q: Where are you currently?
A: Look at my latest daily blog post here. The top should have my current location.
Q: How can I get in touch with you?
A: This website has a contact page. You can find my information there.
Q: What's 3+4?
A: 7.
